Hello. I created this site to share my love of reading and recommend some of my favorite books. When I was a kid in the 70’s in Houston, Indiana … Oh what fun it was when the Bookmobile came to our little town!
Reading was a huge part of my childhood, including when on break from school during the months of June to August! Every other Monday the highlight of my summer day was hearing the beep … beep … beeping as the bus of books went around the block and then parked by the Houston store.
I have fond memories of running up our gravel lane to see what reading treasures awaited. I learned of Laura Ingalls, On the Banks of Plum Creek and Little House in the Big Woods, before Little House on the Prairie became a tv series. How cool was the summer reading club offered by the bookmobile. A stamp for every book read … a reward for something I loved to do anyway.
Mrs. Mitchell, elementary school teacher, stands out as a great resource for my early reading selections. She introduced her 3rd graders to the charm and concerns of E.B. White’s Wilbur & Charlotte in Charlotte’s Web. Learning of the many adventures of Beezus, Ramona, Henry, and Ribsy, characters in the books by Beverly Cleary, was also thanks to the suggestion of Mrs. Mitchell. I have such fond memories of reading due to this wonderful lady who taught so long at Brownstown, Indiana.
